Ready To Hang: Preparing your 2D work for installation
While I am working as the Coordinator for Somerville Open Studios 2013, I will not be teaching any classes. I do look forward to teaching again once SOS 2013 is over, though. To all my students, thank you for your patience. Let’s meet up again over the summer of 2013. Best to all of you, – Rachel
Learn to properly prepare your work for installation. Display your work to its best advantage and protect it using proper framing techniques. Avoid the common mistakes in basic framing that can ruin your artwork. Save money by doing it yourself.
We’ll look at how to select a ready-made frame, and how to build an inexpensive custom frame without needing any specialty tools. Learn which tools you might like to buy if you’re going frame a lot of your own work.
Once you have your frame it’s critical that your work go in it correctly to avoid damage from heat and humidity and time. Properly framed artwork never curls or buckles and stays great looking.
Day One of this two-session workshop will be demonstrations of various framing techniques for a paintings, photographs, and works on paper. Bring a piece of your own artwork to Day Two, along your framing material as discussed, and leave with your work, ready to hang. This class is not currently being offered.
